| Aswan | Aswan to Abu Simbel by cab/taxi? Posted: Fri September 30, 2005 08:13 PM UTC
In this forum, I see somebody mention the option of taking a private cab/taxi to Abu Simbel from Aswan. Can somebody please validate that? My understanding was that there were only 2 ways for foreigners to get to Abu Simbel from Aswan - (1) plane (2) bus.
If hiring a cab indeed is an option, then I am curious to find out if you still need a convoy to escort you, plus how safe they are. We are a group of 4 and flying by plane would cost us a lot but a cab for hire would be a great option if it's readily available. Thanks in advance, boarder |

You can get a private car or microbus but you will still have to travel in the convoy, I believe.

Hi..;I went 2 times to Abu Simbel, the first was a bus transportation, and the second was a plane one...and since the attack against tourists in Dar Meidi, the authorities decided that the road to Abou Simbel was forbidden for tourists...I think that today it's the same.

The road to Abu Simbel was reopend 4 years ago! But I wouldn't go by road ever again!! Done it once with the convoy. It means early rising: the convoy leaves at 4.30am, 3 hours drive in the desert and when you arrive at Abu Simbel you will be there with 1000s of others who all want to be the first to enter the premisses. I HATE CROWDS!! you have about 2,5 hours to see the tempels, before the convoy leaves for Aswan again.
If you have a few days to spare I would recommend to go by cruise ship. Thera are 5 liners crossing Lake Nasser. It takes you in 4 days to Abu Simbel and docks at various places: Marvelous!!!! Take a look at my Abu Simbel pages. Salaam, Dora.

The poster above is correct. The road to Abu Simbel is open but you have to go in the convoy. If you can afford it, flying is the way to go.

What is the price differenc if I go by bus or by plane? I know the price for plane is US190 including admission fee but don't know the price for bus.
I can't find any official website talking about Abu Simbel, what is the admission fee?

Sorry for the delayed reply (didn't login to my account for a long time). I am not sure how much the airfares are to Abu Simbel. However, the bus costs about LE 55/person. The bus far could go a little bit up or down depending on where you book it from.
