| Ha Long | 72hrs in Hanoi - how to spend time in Ha Long? Posted: Wed September 14, 2005 08:11 AM UTC
I will have less than 72 hours in Hanoi in October. My companions and I want to go to Halong Bay. Any advice on how to organize a trip there? Is it worthwhile to stay overnight and, if so, do we need to book accomodation in advance? Should we book transport and accmodation online in advance, or in Hanoi?
Thanks, Chris |

Hi...Halong Bay is absolutely stunning....and a real shame to miss. I would recommend staying for at least one night if possible...it was a real highlight of our trip...we booked with an agency called Handspan....they were probably more expensive than other agencies but as they say you get what you pay for..we stayed on a lovely Junk Boat and the whole trip was lovely...

Yes 2 days in Halong and for the rest you stay in Hanoi. You dont need to book tranport either accmodation before. As almost people who done Halong, you should contact with one travel agency when you are in Hanoi and enjoy your time.

Thanks for the advice. Any idea if there is direct transport from Ha Long to the AIRPORT in Hanoi? We have a 5pm flight. It would be nice to wake up in the morning in Ha Long Bay and go directly to the airport. Does anyone know how long this will take, and if there is a direct bus?
Thanks!

Hi..its at least a two hour drive (if not a little longer) from Halong to Hanoi...your timings seem a little tight to me...might be better to stay in Hanoi that night...
Don't know if there is direct transport from Halong to the airport, but maybe you can call one of the hotels in Halong and they can organise it for you...or you can organise one when you are there...

Sorry just saw that your flight is at 5:00 PM....Maybe you can email Handspan (or another agency) and see if they can organise something for you...

There is no bus from airport to halong. If you wish to do this, you must pay for a private car. Why dont you enjoy the night in hanoi then do Halong bay the next day ?

Just a note over here, your schedule does seem a little tight but I think you just be able to make it if you hire a private taxi to take you from halong to hanoi. Talk to the folks at www.handspan.com and see if they can arrange something for you. Handspan is pretty reptuable, so is odc.
