| Fairbanks | Housing Availability Posted: Thu September 8, 2005 09:34 PM UTC
I see a lot of jobs available in Fairbanks (esp. in hospitals where I'd like to work). But what about housings? What are the costs & availabilities of efficiencies & 1-bdrm apts?

This is Fairbank's local paper. The classifieds should help.

try to email ot call by phone the ataff at the Visitor Information Center (550 First Avenue, fairbanks). they know everything happens in fairbanks. you can give them a call (907) 456-5774 and ask them kindly if one of them knows somthing about rooms available for long period.
last year they helped me, stayed online for about 30 minutes. cheers!

Hi,
News-Miner is a good source, but those who advertise there tend to have quite high prices. I suggest you to first go to AK and stay in a motel etc. for a few weeks and look around. In such a nice place as Fairbanks is, people are really much willing to help you. At UAF (Wood Center) there are postings all over available apartments, check that out first. Then I know that Fairbanks City (?) has some very low-rent apartments (and I mean really cheap ones), but how to get those, I don't know. There are kind of two types housing in Fairbanks. Other one is 'normal' in standard of Lower 48 with running water and shower. But the others are more like cottages, where is on outhouse and no shower plus you might need a good truck to reach the place. Of course, the latter ones are much cheaper. I would say that one-bedroom apartments starts from 450-500 $ monthly rent. Good Luck with searching. Fairbanks is wonderful. -Niina
