I was thinking about visiting la romana and cayo levantado in the DR in February. I don't know anyone who has been to either place. My main concerns are: are they safe destinations?, is it under developed?, what's to do?, what are the beaches like? I would appreciate any info that I can get!

i just got back from la romana and punta cana back in may. i dont know cayo levantado however. the dominican in general is pretty under developed, especially the resort areas. if its any help the people that lived there were very welcoming to tourists. always waving. more appreciative of the business coming to their country. i'm not sure if you are staying in a resort destination, but it's like day and night between one side of the walls and the other. the beaches were nice, but i like big waves, and that they were not.
