Question Posted By: Replies:
How to backup or batch download one's own travel pages (i.e. tips and photos)?
Posted: Sun September 4, 2005 05:53 PM UTC
Searching the archives, there seems to have been a prior question, but not yet a solution:
http://forum.virtualtourist.com/discussion-63441-1-1-Technical-0-0-World-discussion.html

Is there a way a member could say, ftp (or otherwise download in batch) our own created files for example:

Cheers in advance,
Rose

I don't think that I know how to do it in the way that you say.

I do two things to back-up files.

I periodically save my travel pages page. That gives me an overview of number of tips and travelogues and photos and destinations.

I put sections of my travels (especially the travelogues and Intros) into my Custom Travel Guide and save them from there (less of the top advertising).

I always thought that would be neato--so you could print out all your travel pages and show them to people--with pictures, tips, travelogues and everything. Keep a copy on your coffee table. (Would also be a good way to get others interested in VT, wink, wink..)

Yes it would be really convenient. But you can do that already to a certain extent with a scrapbook or photo album. :-) And this is VIRTUAL tourist - not coffeetable book tourist.

Well you don't have to get snooty about it. I know darn well it's a web site. Building a photo album with a bunch of neat details in it is twice the work.

I'm sorry to sound snooty. And I'd like to have a way to collate all my pages too. But I just think it is probably not a goal of the website designers to enable that feature.

Pragmatically speaking, there's no benefit to funding or functionality of the site that would make it important for them to make that possible.
