Arles Transportation

Hi everyone,
I'm trying to figure out the best way to get to Arles from Paris. Here are some options I've looked into:
1) TGV direct to Arles only 2 times:
1st departs at 0700 (waaaay too early we'll probably miss the train)50 Euro

2nd departs at 1800 (will arrive in Arles at 2200 dont know if it's a good idea wandering around at night with suitcases trying to find hotel)80 Euro

Other time schedules aren't direct and cost 154 to 184 Euro.

2) Take TGV to either Marseille or Avignon and take another train to Arles
90 Euro plus cost of connecting train.

Will it be easy enough to find a connecting train? Are there luggage storage at the train stations in case we want to check out Avignon or Marseille before heading off to Arles?

Have you considered taking the train to Avignon (checking it out; it's a great city) and then renting a car to drive to Arles? It seems like it actually might be less expensive if you have the correct prices in your post. It's a direct drive on the N570 which is an excellent road and doesn't charge any toll.

Just a suggestion. BTW, there is free parking in Arles. Drive around the central hill (where the colosseum is located) until you see a church at the top. Right underneath is a small parking lot but we've always found a place there. Well, except on market day!

There is also free parking in Les Angles across the river from Avignon with a free shuttle bus into the city center.

Enjoy your trip.
