Hi Myself and my girlfriend are spending 3 days in Zimbabwe on the 13th of October 2005 ( flying into Harare where we have to make our way to Vic falls ) i need to know if it is safe to travel there at the moment. Is the airport safe? also I know the situation with the economy so will it be very expensive there at the moment? Iv been getting alot of mixed views from different websites but at this stage im considering cancelling my trip is there anyone out there who has been to Zim lately

Hi

If you cant proof you are a Zimbabwen you must pay in US$ for every thing. try going to the Zambien side. Traveling time from Lusaka to vic falls is mutch less.

I am traveling in Victoria Falls on October 8th and 9th and have the same fears. We have booked a package to fly into Victoria Falls and then travel to Chobe in Botswana through Goway travel and they keep reassuring me that Zimbabwe is fine too. I haven't seen anything online about safety in Zimbabwe that is not at least 6 months old...any help would be greatly appreciated.

Am having the same prob with (so called) definite replies. No one can/will say anything about safety; why is that? I guess because people just haven't been there recently.
I am due to attend a wedding near Bulaweyo in November and will definitely NOT be using credit cards whilst in Zim.
I am supposed to take internal flights but have been told that cancellations are happening on those.
I think travelling with people is a must.
can't wait to see Vic falls - from whatever side but remember your visa is for 1 entry only.
By the way how are you getting from harare to Vic Falls?
Good luck from Nick

Hi guys,
I have been travelling in Zimbabwe couple of years ago. if the things are not changed, go there with USD. You can use credit card too, but better to bring with you a certain amount of dollars. Enjoy the falls, amazing !

I was in Vic Falls for 3 days in August my husband and 10 year old son and we had a problem free visit. We just took extra precautions with regards to keeping valuables safe i.e. didn't leave valuables anywhere, just kept money, cameras etc on us at all times keeping them as concealed as possible.
We took US dollars which were taken in hotels, some restaurants and by the activity companies. We then changed a small amount into zims which we used for incidental expenses and in some restaurants where it was cheaper to pay in zims because of the exchange rate.
Also it's safer to taxi around at night we were advised not to walk....so with a child we didn't take any chances.
To be honest I was extremely wary about going, but once we were there it was fine and we had a fantastic few days. I am sure you will have a great trip....wish I was going back!
