I will be in Belo Horizonte in a few months and am dying to visit Ouro Preto. What are my options for getting there? How long will it take?

Haven't been there myself even though I practically live "around the corner"...
All I know for sure is that Ouro Preto is realy near from Belo Horizonte ( I didn't look it up but it's no more than maybe 70 km or max one hour drive ) and that it will be very easy for you to go there (either by bus or car) and also that it shouldn't be too much of a problem to find an appropriate lodging. The best tips on ypur options you will find in BH.....

Hey, Go to the bus station in BH and hop on a bus. I'm not sure of the schedule but it should be fairly regular. You must check out Ouro Preto. IT's AMAZING! I have a great posada listed on my site.

there are many daily buses between BH and Ouro Preto... trip takes about one hour and a half.
you may also enjoy a visit to Tiradentes ... a bit further but a great scape for the weekend if you are in BH. See some photos of Tiradentes at : http://eversilva.multiply.com/photos/album/30 Another interesting place for a quick visit is Congonhas do Campos ... http://eversilva.multiply.com/photos/album/29

Are there any bus from the airport(Tancredo) direct to Ouro Preto, or is the easiest way to take the airport shuttlebus to the BH-rodoviaria, and the Passaro Verde bus from there?
