Monterrey rape/sex crimes in monterrey?
Posted: Tue August 30, 2005 08:03 PM UTC
how likely is it that a 20y/o girl is raped or sexually assaulted in some way? my girl is there for 10 months and i'm pretty concerned that SOMETHING will happen to her in that amount of time. she doesn't go out to bars/clubs or anything like that...i'm still concerned though.

The city is no better or worse than any other. And the same rules apply, don't travel alone, travel in groups, don't walk the streets late at night etc.. I guess it also depends on what part of the city she is staying.

I agree with bct341, it really depends on what part of the city she lives in and obviously exercising common sense like in any large city. Monterrey is fine and you definitely shouldn't spend the next 10 months being stressed out or concerned. I don't think Monterrey is any worse crime-wise than a typical American city of comparative size.

Based on where you said she lived in your previous message asking about directions from the airport, don't worry at all. That area of town is fine.

As a VERY general rule, your possessions are at more risk in Mexican cities than in American cities, but your actual person is much safer.

Don't worry, MOnterrey is a big city, and I dont thing your daugther will be in the bad colonies, there is where she can be hurted, but normally in the regular areas or where the people goes out for having fun are nice, I dont think she will be looking for bad place to have fun, there is a big difference marked between god and bad places to be, you shouldnt be worry about her just tell her to go out with nice persons and she will be safe, the only way she can be possible raped is if she go to a marginal colony walking alone at the middle of the night and that its very remote. Im living in Saltillo 45min from Monterrey and here is very Safe and foreigners are treated very kindly.
I have been in Monterrey for shooping and going out for a night club but its the same than in the US and Canada I have been there too and actually I think in the US is more dangerous because everyone have fire guns, you should be worried if your daughter was living in Ciudad Juarez or a border city, there are a lot of danger.

I am not aware of any foreign females coming to harm in Juarez, either, actually.
