European sizes/gifts Posted: Mon August 29, 2005 04:40 PM UTC
I did not get much in the way of advice on what gifts to bring to the girls in Serbia! They did send me sizes in children and teens (american Juniors) but I doam unable to find a conversion chart on line for them. Anyone out there that can help me? For instance what does FARMERICE (PANTELONE) BROJ 29 MEAN? i ALSO HAVE broj 26 AND 29. I would appreciate some help.
I know that they have access to about anything we can bring, but really wanted to know what is popular and maybe something they would like but not be able to afford, as prices seem pretty high compared to average income. We have already done the camera phones on my husbands last visit. Only three weeks left so I would appreciate some quick remarks.

farmerice=jeans
pantalone=pants
broj=number
the sizes like 26 and 29 refer to the waist size. unlike jeans here where you can look at the waist and length everything over there is waist only and then you can hem stuff cause that is super cheap. i know with bra sizes for example they'll say she wears a C cup but often they won't specify the bust size. so when it comes to clothing in general you can say that measurements don't involve as many parameters as in north america (this is probably due to the fact that the selection of goods while varied often lacks in sizes and it's difficult to find anything decent to wear if you don't fit the average mold).
the pants sizes i found to be different that the ones i see in north america. i can't be sure but jeans might follow the same standard as here. the sizes also vary a lot based on where the garment was made. the only real way to make sure that you'll get the stuff that fits is to ask for precise waist sizes in cm and carry around measuring tape when you are shopping.
some guidelines for european conversions (these are for adult males):

For Levi's number 29 is 29 inches in waist line, 26 is 26 inches logicaly LOL
BUT maybe it would be a good idea to ask them if the number is LEVIS pants number or some other brand, cause it is different, it might be a different size number. For example levis size 27 is like american 10.
Now levis 27 is also like German 38 size, or Italian 40, and French 42.
I hope this helps a little.
Take care
Have a great time visiting...
