| Monte-Carlo | black tie Posted: Fri August 26, 2005 03:14 PM UTC
Hi All,
a few friends and I will be in Monte Carlo next week and wanted to go out in black tie. Where should we go before and after the Casino with out looking like idiots? Avi |

Men in black tie NEVER look like idiots. They may go wherever they please.
The worst that can possibly happen is that you will be mistaken for classical musicians just off from a performance. In any case, you will be treated with deference and respect.

You need a jacket to get in the Hotel de Paris? And the Casino. Might as well go formal. There were several men in formals on the weekend I was there. I recommend staying at the Marriott in Cap D'Ail it was not as formal as the Monte Carlo area but nice. (Alot less stuffy and cheaper rates.) They will drive you to casino, etc. and pick you up. A cab was also inexpensive.

thanks for the feedback,
Beausoleil, you were right. Black tie looked good everywhere. The Casinos were a full cross section of style. There were people who were in shorts in there too. The jacket was needed to go into the high roller sections. We stayed in the Columbus Hotel, near the heliport. Very impressive.

So glad you enjoyed yourself.
From this woman's point of view, men in black tie always look attractive; men in shorts sometimes look attractive. For good or for ill, we are often judged on how we are dressed. In a strange situation it is always more comfortable to err on the side of formality. It indicates a certain panache. 8^)
