I am not sure if there is a golfing araa in Izmir. But in Antalya there are many resorts. Antalya is not far from Izmir. You can take a night bus at friday and play your golf for 2 days in Belek Antalya and return by night bus to Izmir on sunday night. Surely it is expencive but I give you the advice.

Wow, I don't have an answer for you, sorry--but I'm dying to know, and would be amazed to learn, if there is a golf course out there in the forgotten pastures of Turkey! That may be hard to find ... rather, perhaps, like a McDonald's among the chapels of Goreme!! But these days, ya never know :)!

On second thought, what do I know? I see that Sir Victor, who truly knows what's what there in that lovely land, can give you the truth :). I stand corrected ... and quite surprised (and yes, a little disappointed).

A Nice Hello to Anna,
Golf is not a commen sport in Turkey and was not commen during the Empire. Our excitizens like the Rum of Anatolia(the Anatolian Greeks)the Armenians, the Bulgars, the Macedoniers, the mainland Greeks do not know to play the golf. I think golf became popular through USA. That's the reason why we moslem or non moslems Turks don't play the golf. After 1922 as the Empire callopsed and a new republic was founded by Kemal Ataturk a golf ground was founded in Ankara. There was also a golf clup where the diplomats and modern Turks could play the golf. This golf club and ground was turned into a city park in 1960's because of no members. After 1980's as Turkey entered into touristic business many golf grounds were opened through 5 or 6 star Hotels in Antalya. Nowadays the golf grounds of Antalya is one of the best golfing places in the world. If you follow you will hear much about Antalya golfing grounds.plese get information through:http://www.mymerhaba.com/en/main/yellowpages.asp?cid=73&level=1&l=d&cheader=Golf&ccid=73&l1=Sports%20&%20Recreation&l2=&l3=&l4=&l5=&l1l=72&l2l=&l3l=&l4l=&l5l=

You have dipped out as everyone has said, there is no course near Izmir at the moment but a consortium is trying to get money to go ahead with this project I believe in the Urla area. If you wopuld like to deposit 30000USD in my account I can stake a claim for you! Joke!
Golfing in Antalya is common however, and you can find loads of Germans there, as they always seem to be on holiday!
Anyway good luck in your quest.....I love Izmir and I can live without the golf even though my 12 handicap is now unlikley!!!!
Cheers

Am I selfish? I don't want ANY golfing in Anatolia, near Izmir, or in any other part of the land. Ok, ok, I don't know how to golf, don't know the fun that I may be missing, and so I sound like a big, fat idealogue. (And to the nice people who asked the original question, please don't take my raving personally :). But must we make the east into the west? What is next for the sake of the western tourists? Disneyland ala' Asia Minor? Suburban sprawl? God forbid the day that Starbucks opens in Istanbul (please someone, tell me that it hasn't already happened!) The modern country of Turkey is overflowing with history (both ancient and recent)...if someone goes there, it's to get out of one's western world and to engage in another world, isn't it?

Ok. Great. Perfect. It's happened again. I wrote before I read the complete message. This dear man who is looking for a golf course isn't just a tourist, he's going to LIVE in Turkey. Sorry for ranting on you, fellow traveler. I hope you find your golf course (please just don't build any new ones, OK? :) (ha!)
