Nuweiba` Climbing Mount Sinai

Hi everyone

We hope to make a visit to St Catherines and then Climb Mnt SinaiI We hope to get there by Taxi and Book a room at a hotel and then climb the mountain and see the Sun Set, and come back to the Hotel afterwards and fall into to bed.

Does that sound okay?
Is it better to Get a Hotel Room and at 2am start climbing and watch the Sun rise and then go down to the Hotel.

I favor the first option because we can rest that night. But is the Sun rise Better than the Sun Set?

Thanks and cheers

Guess there is no Forum for St catherines Couldnt find one out there. cheers

The reason people go at night and watch the sunrise is because the heat of the day is like a furnace! This way you do the climbing when it's cool.

Most people do go up in the middle of the night and thus it is easier to go with the flow... however, if you are visiting in Winter time then you will find it cooler and easier to go up late afternoon and witness the sunset, sleeping rough on the mountain, coming down after the sunrise to then visit the monastery. I would recommend a night too in St Catherine as it is relaxing, followed by a few days on the beaches at Nuweiba. Also try and do one of the day or even over night trips into the canyons and deserts with the bedouins.

I stayed two nights at the Monastery Guesthouse and it was a very nice and peaceful place. After dinner I slept a few hours and then started the climbing at night. There are a lot of bus loads coming from the resorts at night and the top of Sinai is packed with people at sunrise (it was acctually difficult to find an empty spot at all). If I would do the climbing again I would absolutly do it for sunset as it is very few people who do it then.
