Samos Pythagorion/Anthis appts

Going to Samos 18 Aug 05, Any recommended things to do or see whilst we are there? Would appreciate any opinions on Anthis apartments & Pythagorion in general. Are there any especially good tavernas & cocktail bars that we should visit?
All comments gratefully received.

If you haven't already planned to do it, consider taking a day-trip excursion over to Turkey to see the ruins at Ephesus. This is a common day trip for travellers to Samos and is truly well-worth the time and effort. Ephesus is one of the most spectacular and important archaeological sites in the Med. You will be able to get all the info you need about this once you're on Samos.

I can understand your concerns about going to Kusadasi, but if you're going to let terrorists control your actions you might as well stay home, because they can attack anywhere at any time. I'm sure that was an isolated event and the chances of it happening again are quite small. Besides, you'll be in a controlled environment with the rest of your excursion-mates.

Very true. Probably more chance of getting run over by a bus! I shall try to be more rational. Anyhow I'm sure that Ephesus excursions would be stopped from Samos if the locals believed that tourists were in real danger.

Pythagorio is basically a small attractive rather touristy harbour town, with a reasonable beach to the west.

The most worth while excursion is to do a coastal walk along the coast west of Karlovassi to Potami and Mikro Seitani and Megalo Seitani coves. The details for this are in the 'Landscapes of Samos' book. There are a lot of archeological remains scattered around the Pythagorio area if you are in to that stuff.

Another possibility is to take the ferry 'Nissos Kalymnos' or hydrofoil from Pythagorio to Patmos island and stay there for a couple of days. The ticket agent is about halfway down the main street close to the tourist office.

The main bars are all basically very near the harbourside or one block back both to the left and right of the main St, should take 5 mins to find them all...

The tavernas all seemed to be pretty average.
