Berchtesgaden Train Stations
Posted: Tue August 2, 2005 04:01 PM UTC
Hello, everyone.

My wife and I will be travelling from Munich to Berchtesgaden via train. I've gone on the bahn.de website and noticed a total of three stations. Questions: What is the most centralized station? And are taxis readily available in the early evening?

Danka.

If you enter "München" and "Berchtesgaden", the bahn.de site assumes that you travel from the main station to the main station. I don't see three stations for any of them...

Munich Hbf is the main, and central, station. Hbf is Hauptbahnhof ie main station (whichever German city you are in (except Berlin)). I saw Munchen-Ost as well, but you wouldn't go there unless you were, well, there.

DB timetable
http://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/query.exe/e

You can give at the DB timetable also any S-Bahn/U-Bahn/tram or bus stop as start/end point. I.e. the closest one to your hotel.
E.g. "Muenchen Nordfriedhof"
Or you can go to the "Advanced search" folder and select "address" instead of "station/stop" and give in the address of a place.
E.g. "80805 Muenchen, Theodor-Dombart-Str. 4"

If you want to travel from München Hbf (= Hauptbahnhof = main railway station) you could use in the DB timetable "M" as a shortcut for this station.
Another interesting shortcut is "MUC" for Munich Airport train station.

Plan of München Hbf

Danka for all of your helpful advice. I'm a newbie at rail travel...living in the states means driving from place to place most of the time.
