Hi everybody,

I will have 3 days stay in the city of veracruz next August . I tried to look for hostels but I did not find anyone. I will be gratefull if you could give the names of all the cheap hotels there (especially in downtown Zocalo). something less than 150 Pesos. Please help me.

Try:

Hotel Amparo
Serdán 482
Centro
Veracruz
Tel: (229) 932-27-38

- 1 1/2 block walk to Zocalo and Mercado Hidalgo, 2 blocks to Malecon. Very little, if any, English spoken. It's in your price range.

Hi Bill,

Thank for your advise. I hope your travle to Marrakech and Essaouirra was as funny as you expected. So you stayd in that Hotel Amparo, do they have fax so as I can contact them? Is it safe to save important papers in the reception?

Happy to know you.

I doubt the hotel has a fax. It's a typical Mexican tourist hotel - maybe 1 star. These hotels don't typically have fax's or internet connections for e-mail. But it's a great value for the money. Clean rooms, safe environment, centrally located. I've probably stayed there a dozen times over the past 15 years and I've never had an advance reservation - just showed up. If, for some strange reason, the place is full when you arrive just walk across the street, there's another budget hotel that looks just fine (never stayed ther).
