| Zermatt | October : Shopping & Hotels Posted: Sat July 30, 2005 09:41 AM UTC
(1) If I arrive at Zermat in early October, how will be the weather?
(2) I heard about Bahnhofstrasse shops. Is it the main shopping street? Are there any other alley shopping centers? (3) How far is this Bahnhofstrasse alley to : Allalin hotel & Weisshorn hotel? (4) How to go from Zermatt to Munich? |

(1) Zermatt (1'600m) and Alpine region has a specific micro-climate. Average temperature will around 8 degre celsius during the day (beginning October), rain and first snows could occur. But be aware that weather conditions could change quickly at this altitude.
(2) Bahnofstrasse is the main street with many shops from the Railwaystation (Bahnhof in German) to the Church. You will find every thing you need, especially luxury goods as watch, jewellery, Swiss knifes and of course Swiss chocolate ;-) (3) Zermatt is a small village all location are easily reachable by short walk distance or you could use eletrical local bus or taxi. Allalin and Weisshorn is very close to the Church and it is a 10min walk from the railwaystation via Bahnofstrasse. (4) See train specialist Risberg reply above...

(1) The weather will be cold, especially if you intend on going up into the mountains around Zermatt.. at the "small Matterhorn", there is eternal snow, and even in mid-summer one needs to be equiped for the cold..
(2) Banhoff Strasse has all the shops, mainly the more luxurious ones.. if you want something a little different, normal shops or just original shops selling clothes,.. go to the little pedestrian streets in old town.. from station, start folowin river on the left in direction of lake.. from there take parallel road which is all pedestrians.. full of charm, you'll certainly also want to stop for a drink.. make sure you explore the little alley ways and all.. full of charm..
