Trogir Holiday in Trogir

First of all I would like to send my heartfelt thanks to diocletianvs, Valadelphia and croisbeauty for all their useful advise and tips which helped me greatly in organising my holiday to Croatia. We are all booked up now and going for 2 weeks, based in Trogir ---- we are so excited!!!

I just have a few more questions at the back of my mind and wondered if anyone could help me:-

- Taxi from Split airport to Ciovo (just near to the bridge that goes to Trogir) - how much should I expect to pay the driver?

- Can I buy things in local currency - will bars/restaurants etc. expect me to use Euros? I always prefer to use the local currency wherever possible. Should I take only local currency, or some Euros too?

- If I take my ATM card, are there any ATM machines near to where we are staying, Trogir & Ciovo island?

- Just trying to work out a budget, how much do things cost nowadays in Trogir & Split, ie: meals, drinks etc.

- Plan to spend lots of time exploring Split - is there a good way of getting multi-bus tickets and entrance to the sights/museums etc. which will be a little cheaper than buying tickets every day?

Thanks again... I love this virtual tourist organisation, makes me feel that the world is a very small place, and that there are friends in every corner of it!!!

Kindest regards,

June

You will (indeed must, by law) pay for everything in kuna. Visa ATMs are everywhere, and most shops accept plastic. Meals and drinks are inexpensive by British standards. Enjoy!

Maybe you could get Split card than? It offers a lot. Check it out here:

1. Airport is close to Trogir, taxi should cost around 10 Eur.
2. As Robin already said, you can only pay in Kunas.
3. There are ATMs everywhere and they accept all debit and credit cards. If you take Euros (or other foreign currency) you can easily change it in numerous exchange offices or in banks.
4. It is definitely cheaper than in the UK. But don't expect it to be very cheap - many tourists stay surprised that Croatia is not as cheap as they imagined it would be.
5. Split card is one solution if you want to explore lots of museums in Split. On the website it says it is free of charge, but I assume this is only if you are staying in one of hotels in Split - which is not your case. This card does not cover the public transport.

Public transport functions on a zone system - Split is in 1st zone, Solin in 2nd, Kastela in 3rd and Trogir in 4th. You pay according to how many zones you want to cross: from the airport to Trogir you'll need only 1 zone ticket, from Trogir to Split 4 zone ticket. (Map of zones here: www.promet-split.hr/zone.htm). Prices for individual tickets bought from the driver are 9 / 11 / 15 / 19 Kunas for the 1st / 2nd / 3rd / 4th zone respectively. If you buy a double ticket at the Promet kiosk it is cheaper: than this ticket (for two rides) costs 14 / 18,50 / 23 / 29 Kunas. Tickets are valid for certain period of time (45 minutes for only one zone, 105 minutes for 4 zones) and you can change as many buses in that period as long as you are going in one direction. (You cannot use the same ticket for the return journey). Don't forget to validate your ticket as you enter the bus.

So, buy your tickets at the bus station in Trogir (or in any Promet kiosk) and you'll have cheaper bus rides. If you buy a carnet (10-tickets blocks) it is even cheaper per one ride.

Enjoy your stay.

Very informative!
I am going to the nearby Makarska and I am interested in transportation, too.
I found a schedule on Promet
VOZNI RED http://www.promet-split.hr/Voz%20red%20DUB%20PL%20MET.doc
Split - Dubrovnik
'Povratne karte' - I understand it offers 30% discount, but cannot be bought from the driver. Can tourists buy this card or is it a monthly ticket that is only distributed ?

Promet Split is only one company on the Split-Makarska route. The discount you saw is for students and people serving in the army - so I'd say you can't use it :)

For bus lines to Makarska better check Split bus station website at www.ak-split.hr. Click on Vozni red and select destination and date.

All bus companies offer 20-25% discount on the price of the return ticket, but this way you have to use the same company for the return trip.

Thank you,
