| Haikou | Does Qionghai still have great nightlife? Posted: Wed July 27, 2005 06:33 PM UTC
I was in Hainan in 1999 and the 'scene' was very busy, somewhat like Pattaya in Thailand. Is it still active?

HI! I am not really sure what type of nightlife you are referring to. Hainan is not really on the happening map, though things are picking up, especially around Sanya.

I don't know the policies of this board so I am going to be discreet...
Thailand has Bangkok's Patpong Indonesia has Surabaya's Dolley India has Calcutta's Sona Gachi Phnom Penh (used to have) its Svay Pak Korea (used to have) its Itaewon Hong Kong (used to have) its Snake Alley Etc. Does China still have its junket destination for single men? When I was in Qionghai it was very active. No non-Chinese tourists, good value accommodation, no need to eat solo. Much better value and selection than Haikou's 'Haikou Pinguan' scene where the buffet restaurant changes its character after 9 p.m. There are many changes in the present world due to Protestant American and U.S. extraterritorial enforcement of US laws (but that's a political discussion I won't get into here). Is China immune from Bush's Christian influences?

Ha ha...I got an inkling that you are looking for these "entertainment" when you mentioned Pattaya. I don't really bother with these while I travel so you have to excuse me to say that I am not too sure about the scene in Hainan. (I don't see any too obvious ones around) I can tell you - you will have much better luck in Guangzhou, Shenzhen & Shanghai. They have "everything" there, in every possible way....as long as you have money.
