| Tavira | Is Tavira suitable for a child in a wheelchair?(Tavira v Lagos) Posted: Tue July 26, 2005 05:17 AM UTC
I noticed in one of the photos of Tavira that a member says that Tavira has a lot of steep streets with steps. My daughter has a wheelchair, I am trying to decide between Lagos and Tavira. Any advice would be welcomed!

I went to both places a few years ago -- the area in the centre around the river is flat but yes there are some steep streets in Tavira and also the beach is a long way away -- in summer season you can take a boat from the harbour but out of season it's a long walk and then a boat across a lagoon -- however, I liked Tavira, it's not touristy.
Lagos I recall to be much flatter -- there's the marina area to walk around and the beach is closer. Bearing in mind your requirements, I think you may find Lagos easier.

It's a few years since i was in Tavira, but there were certainly some fairly steep streets there. I suppose it's because it is built along a river valley. From memory, Lagos seemed much flatter, and may be a better bet.
fergy.

Lagos would be your best bet, although there are a few steep streets just off the main harbour road you can easily avoid these. If you stay at a hotel like the Tivoli Lagos in the centre of town, they have a regular bus service (every ten min.)to their private beach.
