Queensday is all over The Netherlands and the next day you can celebrate the first of May in the neighbouring countries! Try the VT-search and you know what we will do. It's everywhere in every Dutch town!

The national celebrating (with a good chance to actually see the Royal Family) will start in Deventer this year, and move from there to a nearby town. But I'd stay in Deventer, as it's a nice historic town with good train connections to Amsterdam (and Germany!) if you like to visit the "official" celebrations. All other towns have "inofficial"celebrations, where as far as I know the most famous are Amsterdam (trade fair all over town with lots to do!) and Den Haag (Koninginnenach, festival/party on the eve of Queens day).
Let me know what you plan, I may also decide to go somewhere last minute!
Enjoy, P.

I must admit I haven't been there myself yet. I did hear that the last 2 years have been exceptionally busy (but also great fun!), with lot's of problems because of overcrowded trains. So if you go to Amsterdam before and stay there overnight you won't have these problems at least, and you will be among the first to join the crowds to the most interesting spots. From earlier postings (also on this Forum, so have a look!) I remember reading that's "it's great fun, just go!"

I spent Queens Day in Amsterdam in 2001 and it was absolutely worth seeing. It was a great laugh actually!

Make sure to wear orange to have booked a place to stay in advance!

Enjoy!

Queensday in Amsterdam is great, if you like to see the whole city full of people having fun. Everyone sells his old stuff on the street. Some parts of the city are well known for finding good antique things. People mark a square on the street and start to sit in the middle of it already early in the morning (or should I say late at night) to keep a place free for themselves to sell their goods.

But you can also buy all kinds of home made food (like space cake :-). There's music all over, especially in the Vondelpark. On the night before, there are many parties, but some of them are very commercial. More fun is to spend the night before in the city center of The Hague, where there is live music in every bar and on every corner of the street. You could just go out all night and take the first train to Amsterdam, if you have enough energy. The Hague - Amsterdam is 45 minutes by train.
Have fun!!

Hi!

Was in Amsterdam for Queen's Day last year. I think it's worth having to experience it for yourself - at least that's what I think. Small part of the city was closed for the celebration, and the place is crowded with people. You see them being merry and having a good time. There are many stalls lining up the street selling things. And there was a lil concert too. And I bought myself a cool orange cow cap!...*lol* If you're staying in Amsterdam, then you do not have to worry about transportation. Train station was over crowded! ;-)

Happy Travelling!

An absolute must is Queen's Day!! As already mentioned here, Queen's Night starts in The Hague and then the party resumes in Amsterdam for Queen's Day. Most of the main squares set up DJ stages and dance areas filled with beer stands. Most of central Amsterdam is blocked off for the party. If the weather on 30 April is better than it was last year, expect the city to explode. The main areas to be at are: Rembrantplein, Leidseplein, Nieuwemarkt, Spui and Muntplein.

Yes, I was in Amsterdam for the Queen's Day!
It was good time though people say it was better last years. Perhaps, of the rainy weather. But Heineken is nice anytime ;-)

Thanks for your replies!
