| Ipswich | Hot to get from the train station to the waterfront? Posted: Fri July 22, 2005 09:07 AM UTC
Can anyone tell me how to get to Ipswich waterfront from the train station?
I understand the train station is outside the city. Are there buses or taxis available? I had ordered a map at Amazon, but they weren't able to get it in time. The people at the Ipswich Tourist Information don't reply to any e-mails. Thank you in advance. Christine |

Try the website http://www.streetmap.co.uk and search for 'Ipswich Station' as a place. It brings up quite a detailed map, which you can enlarge for street names. I don't know Ipswich myself so don't know the best way to reach the waterfront, but there are usually taxi ranks outside most large railways stations, I doubt you will have a problem. Enjoy your trip.

The train station is right near the waterfront.
Come out of the station, and there is a bridg right opposite. You can cross it, turn right and walk maybe 500m (past Cardinal Park and it's big UGC cinema, MacDs, KFC etc) or you can turn right, right outside the station, go straight down the road there, at the bottom of which you come to some traffic lights at another bridge. Right there you will see the waterfront. And this is the same point you end up if you took the other route. Now you must decide if you want to be on the town side, where most of the bars, hotels and facilities are, or on the other, for the boatyard and anther marina (where my dad's boat is). Please don't hesitate to ask if any more info is required. Basically, just step outside, and look to your right, you should see some big old buildings, taller than most and blank looking. It's only maybe 10mins walking, if that. Hope you don't get stuck in town. Jem.

Thank you both for your help. I've booked a hotel at the waterfront and now I should have no problems getting there.
Thanks again. Christine
