Hotel near Navy Pier? Posted: Wed April 9, 2003 10:35 PM UTC
Hi I am coming to Chicago on May 8 for one week... I am looking for a 2 or 3 star hotel in the $70-$100/night range that's not too far from Navy Pier.
Plusses would be an built-in office centre (printing/Internet), and a jacuzzi, but those are just nice-to-haves.
ps. open to any VT meets if you guys have em!
Andre from Vancouver.

Hi Andre! You'll be hard-pressed to find a hotel in that price range with a jacuzzi, but with the American economy in the dumps, who knows? Check out the Seneca Hotel on E. Chestnut (a 10 minute walk max from Navy Pier) - not sure about the office center, but it's a charming hotel for a good price. Also check out the Allerton Crowne Plaza on N. Michigan. It's even closer, and may have the office center you are looking for. It's also a nice hotel and fairly cheap.

Here's a map with some of the hotels closest to Navy Pier. You might also take a look at the Best Western Inn on Ohio and the W Lakeshore (which is probably out of your budget).

I've seen great rates for Chicago on Priceline if you're willing to take the risk. Check out winning bids at www.biddingfortravel.com first.

Holiday inn - Navy Pier could be the one for you, I stopped there recently, price was around $90 a night, but book early if you can. It's on E Ohio, jast about a 5 min walk to Navy Pier and about the same to Madison Av. www.sixcontinentshotels.com is the place to start! Happy hunting!

Hi Andre, I don't know what you consider close to Navy Pier, but you might want to consider staying in Greektown. its a lot cheaper than downtown, you should save some bucks even if you need to take a cab or two.

Re: Re: Hotel near Navy Pier? Posted: Fri April 11, 2003 05:50 AM UTC
Any hotel in the so-called River North area will be within walking distance of Navy Pier on a nice day. Greektown, however, is not really a good location unless you want to rely on cabs in which case the entire city is suddenly up for grabs for hotel locations. The Holiday Inn is quite run down, but there is a brand new Embassy Suites across the street that may have good deals given the low occupancy rates currently being realized in the city. Also, there's a pretty good Motel 6 in a wonderfully old and architecturally significant building nearby. As for Jacuzzis, you will definitely need to work with your budget first. Finally, you might consider any hotel on the CTA Red Line, which runs north-south and has a stop on State and Grand Avenue, which is walkable from Navy Pier (and is also served by the free Navy Pier trolley). By going North on the Red Line, you will find much less expensive lodging options away from the city centre.

There's a free trolley service that runs from Navy Pier so it makes a few more hotels easily accessible. To see the trolley maps go to:
http://www.ci.chi.il.us/Transportation/trolleys/
The blue trolley line runs every day while Navy Pier is open, the other lines run on the weekend through May when they probably go to everyday during the summer.

Try the Tremont Hotel. We stayed there last week. It was very nice and we got our room for only $45!! Try Pr***Li**.com (can't advertise) and put in a bid for $45 for MI avenue. Can't be it. And it does have a pool and fitness center.

You could also try the Red Roof Inn on Ontario and St. Clair.
There is also an Inn of Chicago, Best Western on St. Clair and Ohio, 156 E. Ohio.
Several buses stop a block from there which go to Navy Pier. Or if you are energetic it is about a mile away.

Re: Re: Hotel near Navy Pier? Posted: Fri April 18, 2003 11:16 PM UTC
I ended up using Exp3dia.com for their $79 mystery hotel. Ended up getting the Holiday Inn Chicago on Ohio... listed rates of $139. Totally lucked out too cuz it met my gym, jacuzzi, and business centre requirements.
I wanted to use Hotwire and Priceline badly, but Priceline won't deal with non-US customers, and Hotwire wouldn't take my CIBC credit card (even though it is one of the major Canadian banks).

You will find that alot of online companies need US credit cards. AeroMexico actually wanted a US card for an online purchace of a Puerto Vallarta to Tijuana ticket. So much for global buisiness

I recently stayed at the Swissotel on East Wacker Drive for $100 per night. I booked it through Hotwire and had no problems with a UK Visa card. I would certainly recommend the hotel. It has a fitness centre and jacuzzi as well as business facilities.
I have also stayed at the Sheraton for $84 through Hotwire. Both are within easy walking distance of Navy Pier
