Leon is a city with many leather goods at a good price. There is an airport there, and it is within a few hours' drive of Guanajuato and Queretaro, nice places to stay. Have fun!

Good advise about Leon. Leon has for many years been the leather capital of Mexico, producing a wide variety of goods. I don't know if it still takes place, but there used to be a regular Saturday leather market in the city that was the best place/time to buy in all of Mexico, from what I saw. Leon is the closest airport to the city of Guanajuato and is a short drive/bus ride away.

Tammy,
I have found beautiful tooled leather in speciality shops in Guadalajara and Tlaquipaqui (That is the phonetic spelling.), but I understand there are artists' colonies where leather tooling is taken to a high art. Should you discover where please let me know. awhetstone@sc.rr.com
