Things to Do in S. Miguel in November? Posted: Mon July 18, 2005 01:32 PM UTC
I know it's the off season but it's the best time for us to go ( won't be until next November 2006)
are there boat tours/whale watching available at that time of year?
I am so excited that we're going again! I love this island:)

Hi!
I don't think there's whale watching tours on that time of the year. Not because it's a low season time but because whales move south on winter so you won't see any whales around Azores.
But there many other things to do in such a beautiful place like S. Miguel. Besides that, you may always visit other islands of the archipelago, as long as you were there before. I suggest you Terceira, as it's the second closest island to S. Miguel and has beautiful villages.

Thank you both for your responses :) it helps so much. So if I were to "island hop" where can I go to get a boat on S Miguel? and which island is closest?
I do want to eventually see them all one day( I'm afraid I'll fall in love with them all as much as S Miguel and just move out there :) ) how close is Pico?
Thanks again for your help :)

Hi
In November you dont find a boat to travel between SMIguel and the central group. The best you can do is to buy a flight ticket betwen SMIguel, Terceira (40minutes far)and Pico (1 hour far)or Faial (without breaks to return), and finaly return to SMIguel from Pico/Faial. In central group you can take a boat between FAial, Pico and SJorge..

Hello!
The best way to you to know the Azores is buying a airticket from Ponta Delgada to Flores Island, with the possibility to stop in Faial, São Jorge and Terceira. From Flores Island you can take e small boat to Corvo Island (in summer). In central islands, there are good connections all over the year, namely between Faial and Pico. A few years ago I made this trip.
In winter is difficult to travel to the western island because of the bad weather conditions, namely wind. Americans friends of me traveled once in February and they had a good time.
In my opinion Flores Island is the most beautiful of the archipelago, São Jorge is also a great island namely the places called Fajãs. In Terceira Island, Angra do Heroísmo is the main attraction!
Please, contact our regional airline www.sata.pt for detailed information about fares and connections among islands.
You are welcome to the Azores.
