La Spezia is a pleasant enough friendly little town, but nothing spectacular. Mostly fairly modern buildings. Quite a good art museum, a nice seaside promenade, small navy port, old center which can be seen in ten minutes, antiques and flea market sometimes down by the shore. Cheaper accommodations than in nearby Cinque Terre. Rail station is on the main line between Genoa and Pisa, so it's easy to get there.

i live pretty close to la spezia
la aspezia downtown isn't anything special, it's just an industrial port. BUT if u wanna go to cinque terre or porto venere and so on... these villages are all nearby ane beautiful. i don't know this place called via raffaele dei nobili, but it doens't sound like a village, it's a street name i'll search for u tomorrow from work ciaoooo

via raffaele di nobili appears to be a street along the side of Piazza Cavour near the docks in La Spezia - see www.michelin.com .
While I am sure La Spezia is a nice place for the people who live there, it is indeed a modern town that is one of the harbors for the Italian navy. For a more "traditional" (read: what tourists want to see) Italy, either take a local bus out to Portovenere out at the end of the bay that La Spezia is on, or take a train to one of the Cinque Terre not far away. We spent a couple of days in Portovenere a few years ago, and it looks like one of those idyllic Italian fishing villages with the multicolored houses facing the water...plus, when you go there in late November, you are almost the only tourists in town(!).
