| San José | Whats Up in San Jose! Posted: Sun July 17, 2005 07:31 PM UTC
Hey guys, My name is Sara and I am traveling to costa rica end of august and am staying in cartago, close to san jose. How much is the currency diff. from u.s. dollars? and what are bus/taxi charges? I'm going to be volunteering during the day in the community, but am looking to go around the city of San Jose for the nightlife. Feel free to reply. Thanks.

Hi, Carthago is a bit boring actually. So for nightlife I will be necessary to go to San José, but even there don't expect too much. A few areas you can hang out are: San Pedro, Barrio California (between San pedro and San José centro) and "el pueblo". Those 3 areas are well known, so no problem to get there.
Busses are cheap, like half a dollar from Carthago to San José. For a cab, you have to count 4 times more, but anly if you speak spanish a bit, so you can bargain the price. Exchange rate is 480 colones for 1 dollar.
