| Groningen | Organising a Tourist trip from Groningen Posted: Sun July 17, 2005 02:03 PM UTC
I've been in Groningen for a few months now, and will have some close friends visiting this week, would like to organise a nice time for them while here (I have a car)
Where would you take your friends? (we're all in our early/mid twenties) 1. In Groningen 2. Throughout Holland (amsterdam, rotterdam, etc day trips) 3. Germany (I know its a short drive from Groningen, but never went there!) We're interested in unique experiences (i.e. outdoor festivals, circuses, musicals, outdoor fun, etc), with english speaking facilities Thanks in advance :-) |

Go to Nijmegen this week! www.vierdaagse.nl or www.nijmeegsevierdaagsefeesten.nl. From their site I copied the following info:
Like every year the centre of Nijmegen is the most sparkling centre of Holland during the Four-Days March Nijmegen. Seven days and nights – almost non-stop, from the 16th till the 22nd of July, at least 200 musical and theatrical artists show their skills on more than 25 stages. Blues, rock ‘n roll, salsa and classic; you name it, we’ve got it. Over a million visitors totally enjoy themselves walking along all the market-stalls and the 150 terraces all over the center. Our theme “Meet Friends, Have Fun and Enjoy the Music” says it all. Visit their website for the program. It's the biggest Dutch event! Go there by train (take the train from Arnhem or other city), 'cause you won't be able to park your car.

Bourtange in Groningen.
Leer & Emden in Germany. You can visit some towns around the IJsselmeer. Afsluitdijk - Alkmaar - Edam/Volendam - Harderwijk Do your friends have any preferences. A visit to the Frisian Islands is also great (for cycling/walking). general info: http://www.holland.com/us/ PJ

Thanks Pieter
we don't have any particular preferences, but would like to go to places that are ''must-see''..Like summer festivals, or important/historical areas/ fun places......Preferably close to Groningen to avoid wasting time on getting there and spend more time in the places. I was considering Berlin for example...to see the old Wall.. I'm looking up all the locations you mentioned on VT right now...thanks :-)
