Qatar Information needed

i've been offered a position for 16000QR a month.
I'm single and will be looking out for a single bedroom apartment.
Can someone tell me this amount good enough to be able to save a bit after rent and hiring a car?

this not related to your question, but i have some questions instead, i got an offer in kuwait now i would like to know if this country is safe for single female travelling alone. i mean i used to work in saudi arabia and some friends told me that kuwait is almost the same as saudi arabia. no alcohol, no cinemas, has to wear abaya etc....is this true? please tell me something about living there? otherwise i would chose doha...thanks

Well firstly, Kuwait is NOTHING like Saudi Arabia.
There are cinemas, you don't have to wear abayas, you can wear what you like (though if you're a white woman, prepared to be stared and hounded by local "studs" if you're in shorts!) etc. etc. You'd be shocked at the sort of stuff the youngsters in Kuwait parade about in!
Kuwait is almost like Dubai but for the lack of alcohol. the black market stuff is TERRIBLY expensive.
Overall, the rents in Kuwait are cheaper than Qatar but they are steadily increasing. But if you live in the city centers like Salmiya or Kuwait city, the prices are very much the same.
I hope you've researched the company you'll be working for and compared salaries and working conditions. There are some schools and companies that are REALLY horrible and I've had friends who've left after terrible experiences with them.
Everyone who comes to Kuwait finds out in a couple of months that there is a hierarchy to everything. In case of nationalities, if you're white, you won't have too many hassles. The embassies look out for you and you're safe. If you're from a developing country, be prepared for endless amounts of bueracracy for every tiny little detail.
Kuwait is generally safe, the crime rate is very low. As a single woman, you shouldn't have any problems other than the constant nuisance of phone numbers thrown at you from passing cars!
I was born in Kuwait and have lived here most of my life. I am moving for better career opportunities and new experiences. I know that qatar is a bit more traditional, you have to watch what you wear etc. etc..but it's a small price to pay for being in a place that's developing steadily. Kuwait's gobne through cycles of economic boom but i find it a challenge to be in a country that's experiencing it's first big boom now.
So best of luck deciding!
I hope i've been helpful. If there's anything else you'd like to know about, you can mail me at sunnykohl@hotmail.com.
