Hello,

I will be in Tirane around the end of July after visiting Macedonia, If any locals or visitors would like to meet and have a drink, I would be happy.

Any hints and advices on history, entertainment, accommodation, eating, drinking will be appreciated. I also wish to travel inside Albania.

Thanks a lot.
Alper.

Tirana RE: Visiting Albania

Hi, I went there for 5 weeks last year and had a good time. The best part of the country is Saranda in the south which is absolutely spectacular but getting there can be a bit of a problem as there is no airport so you have to hire a car or driver in Tirana. There are a few very nice places to stop en route inclding water fall, castle and trout river. The scenery in the south, mountains, forests and beautiful beaches is breathtaking. Tirana has a lot to offer and I recommend going to the Lido pool complex for a day. Its near the lake on the other side of the big park. There is an airport tax to pay on both arrival and departure.

HI, if you are interested on the history of albania and the balkans you may
like to visit the National HIstoric Museum at the center of Tirana, scanderbeg square,
then at mother teresa sqr there is the archeologic museum -showing some of the
roman and venetian traces in albania, There is also the National Art Gallery
with contemporary albanian art as well as some old peaces of socialist realism.

At the scanderbeg squeare you may like to visit the Mosque of Ethem Bey,
constructed in 1789. then in the outscirts of Tirana are two beautiful
fortresses: Petrela and Bashtova, built around the 15th century.

IN addition, there are plenty of good restaurants in tirana and loads of clubs
with various music, most of them located at the area known as The Bllok (check my tips page about Tirana).

iN case it gets very hot, there are some outdoor swimming pools close to the
lake of Tirana.

These are information about Tirana only - I know that better since I live there;)

But then as for Albania in general, I would suggest making a trip to the south. places worth to visit are Kruja (historical town), Berat, Vlora, Dhermi, Himara and Saranda.

HOpe you enjoy ur stay here.

best
