Hi VT people....

Phew.. at last I've narrowed it down to two Villas... wondered if anyone knew of them:-

Villa Dolce Vita which is situated on Ciovo about 1.5km from Trogir town.
Villa Jidro which is right in Trogir town on the sea front.
Both want to charge 50 Eur/night for a double apartment with breakfast for 2 people - does this sound like a good price?

I dont quite understand the geography - Ciovo/Trogir???? could anyone explain to me please.

What we mainly want from our visit is to be near the sea, be able to walk and explore the interesting and historic places like Trogir town, and be able to use buses or ferries to visit Split and some islands.

Would to be accommodated in Trogir town be the best option for us do you think? or would being in the Dolce Vita Villa on Ciovo be OK?

50 euros seems a little high, but if it is july or august maybe that is the going rate--Trogir was more expensive when I was there this year than it was two years ago, as was all of Croatia.
Trogir is a tiny island just adjacent to the mainland and Ciovo is a larger island just over a short bridge from Trogir. The bus station is on the mainland side and buses to Split are frequent.
A sea front villa in Trogir likely overlooks the marina, not a bad sight. Staying in Trogir could potentially be noisy. If you don't mind the 1.5 km walk staying in Ciovo will be fine.
I'd pick the one with the nicest photos, if booking through a website offering that.

There are some beaches on Ciovo (which I haven't seen), but I can highly recommend a day trip to Drevnik Veli. It's easily reached from Trogir and has secluded rocky beaches, plus nice hiking across the island. Drevnik Mali probably has better swimming beaches, but more people.

50 euros is usual price for the first class apartments in high season and divided to four person it is not too much. This price for two person, however, I find too high.
Split is 25km far from Trogir, the best is to get it by local bus. There is main ferry-port from where you can get all middle-Adriatic islands. I suggest you to visit nearby Brac, Hvar and Vis. North of Trogir you'll find the town of Sibenik, nearby NP Krka is a must see and you can get it by boat tour too. I suggest you the day trip to nearby NP Kornati, a group of approx. 200 islands and islets mostly isolated.

From what I see on their website, it is not the "zimmer frei" service where people rent one or two rooms in their (usually unfinished, looking like concrete monster) houses. ("Zimmer frei" people usually cheap on taxes so they are cheaper, but they also don't report their accommodation to the local tourist office and quality control is equal to zero).

Both villas you found look like nice, small, family-run hotels. Dolce Vita even has its own pool. I think the price is reasonable for high season. We are talking about 17 GBP per person per night, breakfast included! Imagine finding a similar rate in the UK.

As for their locations - if you don't mind walking a bit (Dolce Vita) they are both OK. (But think twice - it can be very hot here, so maybe walking 1,5 km when the outside temperature reaches 37 degrees is not your kind of holiday). Either way you'll have to walk a bit: from Dolce Vita to reach Trogir center and the bus station, and from Villa Jidro to reach the beach.

From Trogir there are local buses to Split every 20 minutes, running from 4am till midnight. There are also good connections with interurban lines with Sibenik and Zadar.
