Ko Tao whats that smell?
Posted: Mon July 11, 2005 06:19 AM UTC
hi, I'm on koh tao at the moment, and all of the beaches we have been to have a terrible fishy smell. I think something is washing up onto the beach. Is thios normal or are we just unlucky? Thankfully, our resort (sensi) does not suffer from this problem. Just curious, having an amazing time otherwise, great snorkelling

It could be a 'bloom' of algae known as 'red tide' or a similar breakout of algae. Check out this website to see if there's any resemblance.

Hi - just wondering what you thought of Sensi, we are thinking of booking it next year. Do you think it would be suitable for children? We have a 2 year old.
thanks

I really liked sensi, and there were a lot of families there. On the plus side the food is really good and the huts are well designed and placed so that we felt it was private, its wonderful to be able snorkle whenever you want (I saw sharks, giant barracuda and ribbontailed rays just outside my room) on the down side it is overpriced (we were in the romantic suite which cost 80 UKP per night after all there add ons), there is no hot water and there was occasional noise from the town. My tip if you are going is check the moon and the tides. When we arrived high tide was about midnight, and the low tide was so low you could not swim over the coral. It was fine later in the cycle though
