| Trogir | Family Hotel Posted: Wed July 6, 2005 12:33 PM UTC
Hi - we are thinking of visiting Trogir early September. I wonder can anyone recommend a nice family run hotel? We did find the Medina Hotel, but dont like the look of this as it is too big and impersonal. We really would like a smaller hotel with more of a personal touch.
Also - is it easy to get a taxi from Split airport to Trogir - if so, how much should we expect to pay. Thanks very much. |

Try this website for the list of smaller hotels and pensions:
www.trogir-online.com/eng/hotel.asp Note that Ciovo island is connected by the bridge with Trogir Old town so there are hotels that are situated on the island, but are in fact only few hundred meters from the old town. Split Airport is close to Trogir, taxi shouldn't cost more than 70 kn (10 Eur) - might even be somewhat cheaper. Taxis wait in front of the airport - it's very easy.

Do be careful where you book. I was in Trogir in August. Actually not in Trogir itself just outside. It was a really nice appartment, very friendly owners and great and safe for kids. Cross small road and at beach. BUT the apartment was on an island, to get to it had to cross a road bridge. There was ALWAYS huge traffic jams there, no matter what time. The quickest time it took us to get over was half an hour usually longer. We would park the car and walk, it was quicker. Make sure you are in Trogir itself so you don't have that problem.
I found there were very few English people there. I found the Croats to be indefferent to us, not friendly like the Spanish or Greeks. Also the beaches were all pebble beaches (actually huge stones sometimes) and the "sand" beaches were in fact gravel. Not ideal for children although we of course made the most of it. You can buy shoes to wear on the beach and in the sea. They cost about £4 a pair or more. Also if you are using a car beware of the police. They dish out parking fines like sweets although no "no parking signs", to be paid on the spor. £40! Hope you enjoy your holiday.
