| Karachi | Karachi in July 2005 Posted: Mon July 4, 2005 12:44 AM UTC
I am travelling to Karachi in July for a week and am undecided whether to stay at Sheraton, Marriot or Pearl Continental. Input from those who have stayed at any of these hotels would be very much appreciated. Also, do any of these luxury hotels have internet facilities on the cheap?
I hear lot of kidnappings take place in karachi - is this a fact or myth? Finally, what sort of weather should I expect, and are taxis air conditioned? |

HI Fat brain,
These 3 hotels have pretty much the same service standards given they're all 5 star hotels. I guess you should choose the one that has the best location for your purpose. In Karachi, there are some areas you might want to avoid, hopefully some VTers from Pakistan will give you better advice on this.

Well .. Sheraton is too impersonal and too ostentatious in an insipid way .. PC is too tedious and pretentious and somewhat wannabeish .. Marriott on the other hand is simple and spacious .. and an ideal home away from home. Stay at Marriott, u wont regret it ...

and oh btw .. dont worry .. no one is going to kidnap you! please! *rolls my eyes* ... and yes ... internet is everwhere .. and cheap too ... u want to stay at the desi five stars and u are bothered about the internet charges? :) anyways .. its like a pound for a hour .. as for Taxis .. no sire .. they are not air-conditioned .. but then u can always take the hotel's rent a car .. car! But then ofcourse it would be expensive .. *the dreaded word* :P

As far as hotel selection is concerned, I can't say anything. By the way as you read first advise all three hotels are 5 star, so should have similar facilities. Or you should go for Marriot. All 3 hotels are situated near to each other at most 1 Kilometer range.
On the other hand, consider yourself safe here. People are friendly and there is no security problem. Weather is hot so you sholuld bring light summer clothes. As already told by one of my friends, taxis are not Air conditioned, but you can hire a car, or use hotel transport. Have a good journey.

Concenring Air Conditioned Taxi, there is a service provided by METRO CAB and WHITE RADIO CAB which I am sure you can hire for a day. Bit expensive if you comparred to normal YELOOW CAB taxis but may end up cheaper then renting a car from the hotel. Your hotel reception can give you the number for the taxi service.

I'll recommend Marriot for various reasons.
