I'm heading to Italy for a week in early September. So far, I'm thinking of doing some routes around Gran Paradiso, anything which doesn't involve scrambling or climbing as i'll be by myself. Can anyone reccommend a good english (or french) hiking guide book for the area? Also, any general suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated!

Ill be very interested to hear your results... I am also leaving for Italy from Holland in the first week of september and plan to hike the same area. I too will be alone and am looking for some good hikes that are semi remote... past lakes maybe...
