Hi, Karen
We didn't stay in those hotels, but we did spend a night at the Hotel Varonos on Pavlou 25 and Frederikis St. We liked it very much. In fact, it was recommended by the people at the Hotel Parnassos! Our room wasn't fancy, but it was clean and very friendly. The view out our room facing the gorge was fantastic. You can read more about it on my Delphi Travel Page. Hope this helps, and have a great time. -Tom

I meant to say that our room was clean and the staff very friendly (not the room was friendly to us)!

Hi Tom
Thanks for taking the time to answer. The only reason we are considering the C & C Villa and Parnassos is that they have quad rooms and we are a family of 4.

Hi, Karen
You're welcome. After thinking about it, I do seem to remember that the Parnassos was pretty nice and recommended by the Frommer book. -Tom

Thanks, Tom
I think we will book into this hotel. How many days do you think we should stay in Delphi? We only have a week on the mainland and will spend a couple of days in Athens. Do you think the longer journey to Olympia should be in our schedule? It is a little difficult to plan as we have to get from Syros and the winter ferry schedule won't be available until September.

Hi, Karen
Sorry for the late reply. If I remember correctly, tour groups that go to Delphi spend about 3-4 hours at the archaeological site, museum, and then lunch. For me, however, that is not enough time. The groups spend most of the time at the temple of Apollo and Sacred Way and completely ignore the ancient stadium (it requires extra climbing) and the tholos (a round temple facing the sanctuary) and its surrounding area. If I were going on my own, I would take advantage of the time to really explore the site and take my time at the museum. If I arrived in the late morning/early afternoon, I might spend a few hours at the site, return the next day to the museum, and from there drive on to Olympia. If I arrived later in the day, I would spend that day wandering the town, and devote the next day to the site and museum and leave for Olympia the following day. -Tom

Thanks again Tom, I am now planning to book two nights in Delphi. We were planning to travel from Olympia to Delphi. I've had conflicting opinions as to the length of the journey - from two hours to five hours. We plan to leave Olympia early after breakfast, but to be on the safe side will plan two nights in Delphi. After coming so far, we don't want to rush our visit.

Karen,
We've driven from Delphi to Kyllini (a port town near Olympia), and the trip was close to five hours. One reason it took us so long was we went before the Rion-Antirion bridge was built so we had to take a ferry. The new bridge, besides making the trip faster, is supposed to be quite spectacular! Hope you have a great time in Greece. -Tom
