HI! Seeing that you are from the UK - I believed you are referring to the British forces stationed in Singapore in the 60s? I do believe the British forces had a naval base around the area then, if my history is correct. Pasir Ris today is possibly totally different from the Pasir Ris in the 60s. The hotel you mentioned possibly had joined the annals of history.

The British naval base is now the Sembawang Shipyard.
If I remember correctly Bedok, Changi and Pasir Ris were the beach resort areas in the Eastern part of Singapore and not too far away from each other, in the sixties. There were no public housing there then.

The British had their air base in Changi, maybe the base is still there but now occupied by the Singapore Air Force.

Can any VTers confirm?

Dad was sent to Singapore 1962, we first stayed at the Mayfair hotel in Armenian Street , for a couple of weeks and then we went to the Pasir Rees Hotel Nr Changi for about 8 weeks, before we had our home in Serangoon Gardens Way, so it was like a transit camp till they had some where to put their staff till a property became available.

Can remember living in a wood type hut with thatched roof with my mother and my dad and brothers lived in a hut along a jetty

I think there was a Pasir Ris hotel, but not that primative as discribed by you,
Yes it could be constructed of timber but were definatively confortable to stay in.

Serangoon gardens are now occupied by locals and have been upgraded.

I do not think you would reconize the place if you do visit it.

I donot know if Mayfair hotel is still there or have been converted to something else.
Maybe some elder VTers could help here.
I remember sometime back there was a Shanghaiese restuarant there.

maybe this might jolt your memory.

Anyway have a nice day.
