| Vladivostok | Japan to Vladivostok - May 2006 Posted: Mon June 27, 2005 02:56 PM UTC
Hi everyone
I'm planning a trip from Australia to Japan, then from there to Vladivostok with the aim of going on the Trans-siberian railway all the way through to Mosocow, St Petersburg and on through the rest of Europe, with the aim of eventually working for a year or so in Germany or the UK. I'm interested in finding out if anyone has caught a ferry from Japan to Vladivostok and how this was? Am I better off just trying to find a flight over? Also I'm keen to hear about any experiences traveling through Russia - what are the main things to watch out for? Is it safe to travel independently? Sooo many questions!!! |

Hi! It may be a thrilling trip ;)
Well, as for Japan-Vladivostok passage. As far s I know, there is a sort of ferry running between Fushiki, Toyama, and Vladivostok or Nakhodka. 150USD one way. Or a plane from Niigata to Vladivostok, fast, but expensive... Gotta find out more myself... Hope, that helps.

I caught the Fushiki-Vladivostok ferry last year, although I got it the other way from what the OP is planning.
The ferry terminal is about 500 metres from Fushiki station (on a local line from Takaoka in Toyama prefecture) and there are direct trains to Toyama/Takaoka from Osaka. Not sure whether or not you'd need to transfer at Toyama if you were coming from Tokyo. Take supplies of snacks etc with you onboard, although all meals are supplied. You are looking at about $230 US one-way.

Hello --
How did that go? I am a twenty-six year old American girl living in Japan. I'm extremely interested in visiting Vladivostock, and would love to hear about your trip. I am thinking of going at Christmastime (I know it will be COLD!). Did you find it safe? Please share the details! Best, Mandy
