Karlsruhe Nottingen location
Posted: Fri June 24, 2005 02:12 PM UTC
My family ancestors come from Karlsruhe, Nottingen, Baden according to records I have looked up. I was so disappointed on my recent trip to Germany to be informed that Nottingen does not exist! Therefore, I could not look up any family records and find out anything about my family? Can anyone tell my if Nottingen does still exist and, if not, where it used to be? I need a starting point to begin to verify some family documents. Thanks so much! Hope Young Proksch

I just googled Nottingen and this is one of the sites I found:
http://www.fallingrain.com/world/GM/1/Nottingen.html
Since it has weather it must exist! ;)

I guess this is Nöttingen. The umlaut ö is often by English speaker omitted and just a o is written. The correct from without umlaut available is however ö -> oe - thus: Noettingen
Works with search engines (like Goolge) or railway timetables.

Thus e.g. the homepage of the fire brigade Nöttingen is
http://www.feuerwehr-noettingen.de/

Map of Remchingen and Nöttingen
http://www.remchingen.de/ortsplan.htm

This is between Karlsruhe and Pforzheim.
S-Bahn (line S5 pink) or regional train to Remchingen, from there by bus.

I also have ancestors from Baden, but from Durlach, which is now within the city limits of Karlsruhe. Does anyone know where I might find records (church, civic) of Durlach in the 1850s or so? Thanks.

Nöttingen is about 40 miles west of Heidelberg but is off the beaten path. It is close to Autobahn A8 but there is no exit for the town (typical German highway...very few exits). Travel west past Nöttingen, exit at West Pforzheim then double back and drive back to Nöttingen. That said, probably the best place to look for your ancestor's records is with the Latter Day Saints Family History Center. Go to their web site and do a search at http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/default.asp
