Ilha de Fernando de Noronha Diving in Noronha
Posted: Wed April 2, 2003 06:42 PM UTC
I expect to be in Brazil in July and hope to go to Noronha to dive. I see that there are two main dive operators there (with a third smaller one); one goes out in the morning and the other in the afternoon. These seem to be two-tank dives. Questions:

Does the boat go to two different dive sites on a single outing (one for each tank)?

Can a diver do both morning and afternoon dives?

What is a good length of time to stay there?

Thanks for any help.

I can't answer your diving questions but for the length of stay most people buy one-week packages from Rio, São Paulo, Natal or Recife.

Noronha is like this, depending on the weather (tide, visibility, etc) you'll get the ïnside sea or outside sea, it's hard to say wich one has the best spots, i'm pretty sure you'll enjoy any "sea side" cos both are awe. write to this dive master, he lives in Noronha: .

most people stay a week in Noronha, cos costs are quite high when compared to other brasilian sites, and it's necessary to pay "day tax" wich increases after the 1 week
a place where you can do "tons" of dives in a better price is Abrolhos, there some packages which includes all meals, dives (night dives as well) and so on and you stay in a boat for 3 days/2 nights, this is in south of Bahia.

You will love Noronha, it's a quiet and relaxing place, still fairly undeveloped. When I was there in 1998, there were three operators: Noronha Divers, Aguas Claras and Atlantis. Dives in fact took place normally in the morning, although I was told there are night dives as well. For certified divers, the boat went to two different spots on the same outing, though reasonably close.
