I am not familiar w/ Chicago at all and was wondering if anyone could give me some advice about the best way to get from the House of Blues to the Magnificant Mile & Navy Pier. I am not certain of the distance or if there is any public transportation. Thanks..

At House of Blues you are at Dearborn and the Chicago River. You could possibly take a water taxi to Michigan ave and the river where you are dropped off at the Wrigley building, the southern end of the mag mile. Or, cross the river at dearborn and hop on the red line at lake and go 1 stop to Grand Ave. Walk up to Grand and State and go 2 block east to Michigan, 7 blocks east to Navy Pier.

If you want to take a bus to Navy Pier, then board on Illinois street (on the north side of the river, 1 way going east). Buses # 29, 65 board at Illinois, but routes 2, 66, 124 also arrive at Navy Pier if you pick them up at other parts of Michigan ave and river north region.

You're within walking distance of the places you've mentioned. I regularly use the online map services at mapquest.com, you might find the maps helpful when planning your movements (enter hotel address and map appears including nearby attractions, restaurants, etc.). A good online source for public transportation information about Chicago is found at: www.transitchicago.com. For information about restaurants, venues, attractions, fairs, festivals, music events, etc., etc., have a look at www.metromix.com.

Enjoy your visit to Chicago!

Speaking of mapping, I've found the new Google Maps pretty good.

There is also a free trolley that makes a loop through lot of those attractions. There are like four different routes. They look like San Francisco streetcars on wheels, and signs are posted showing the routes.

get a city map and walk it's not far at all, besides walking lets you discover things you wouldn't in a cab or bus. as far as a water taxi goes, i've lived here all my life and i'm downtown everyday for work and i never heard of anyone taking a water taxi, funny.

The House of Blues is not far from the Mag Mile and Navy Pier. The main entrance to the HOBs is on Dearborn but you can easily cut across to Clark Street (which is West). Walk 1/2 block on Clark over the bridge to Wacker Drive. Turn right on Wacker and walk 4 blocks East to Michigan Avenue. Here is the start of the Magnificant Mile. If you walk up a few blocks on Michigan to Grand Avenue, you will need to go down the steps to lower Michigan Ave. Then walk East for about 15-20 minutes and you will hit Navy Pier. During the Summer there is also a free trolley from Michigan Avenue to Navy Pier. There are signs marked along the avenue with "Free Trolley Stop". They run between 10am and 6pm.
