Auckland Region day trips out of Auckland - also day-trip tour operators?
Posted: Wed June 22, 2005 11:23 AM UTC
Hi all

I am going to NZ in a few months, with a group, using Down Under Answers as the tour operator. (this is NOT an endorsement by the way).

I've already paid for the tour but have reasons to wonder if they have their act together and if this trip will be a success or not. One can only hope.

The official tour ends on a Thursday, and I fly home Saturday evening. That gives Thurs afternoon, all day Friday, and all day Saturday 'til say 5 PM to do whatever I like (plane leaves at 8 PM)

Down Under Answers did send to me some day-trip options at what seem to be really reasonable prices but given their general lethargy at answering any of my minimal questions once I paid for the tour, I'm tempted to strike out on my own for the last 48+ hours.

The options she presented which look appealing are:

1. Waiheke Island
2. Rangitoto (if time permits)
3. Mount Eden, also Muriwai beach and wine tastings at two wineries.
4. morning in Auckland, then on to Waitakere Ranges/Arataki Centre, also black sand beach and rainforest.

I can figure this all out on my own but at this point would just as soon find a day-trip tour operator and tag along. chances are DUA sub-contracts out to locals and I'd end up on the same tour anyway.

any comments welcome. thanks!

Hi, I recommend joining in the coast 2 coast eco tour. They'll pick you up in the morning from Auckland CBD and drop you off around 18:00. You'll have a great day out, get to see vineyards, craft fairs, honey producers and the tour operators' farm. Check out my full report here:

Have a great time.
Regards.
