North Padre beaches are nice. Wide sandy beaches with dunes, but they can get a little crowded at times. Very little seawead, but jelly fish can at times be a problem, but not enough to worry much about.

If you drive onto the beach you will need to get a Nueces County beach access pass for your vehicle. They can be obtained at local area convenience stores. If you drive on the beach without one, you will get a ticket, and the Sherriff's dept. does patrol the beach.

Happy trails,

Marc

Although not the Mexican Riviera, Texas does boast some excellent beach areas. Those found in the north part of Padre Island are usually less visited then say Galveston further north or even South Padre Island. Driving in the beach seems to be a big pastime as you can drive about 100 miles I think. Swiming is great too, specially on nearby Mustang Island. You won't encounter too much sea weed, but as the other poster said watch out for jelly fish. Don't worry though, it's not Australia... the jelly fish won't kill you :).

saludos,
Fernando

PS: Camping and fishing are great activities to do in this area, make sure you have the required permits/licenses though.

Beaches are good. Not comprable to florida or cali, this is the gulf.
Seaweed, yes, Jellies, yes, oil, yes. the oil comes in as little tar balls thought.
