Is it possible to go on a river cruise once in Yangshuo? We have limited time and would prefer a half-day river trip from Yangshuo instead of the long one that goes from Guilin to Yangshuo.

Or, is it just as beautiful to hike and take a bamboo raft trip on the smaller river near by?

i biked for about 30 km and then took a boat back to yangshuo ^__^

Yes, you should do both!

The Li River cruises from Yangshuo normally start from Xingping, especially when the water is low they use small boats for maybe 6 people. (much better than those big tourist titanics...)

But bike trips are awesome, too. You can take a raft (with the bike) over the Jinbao branch (I think this was the name...) of the Li River for part of the distance and bike around, to moon hill for example, for the rest of the roundtrip. Very nice!

If you only want to spend one day there, do the river cruise in the morning and the biking in the afternoon.

yes,you could do that,from xingping to langshi andthen come back xingping,this part is the best secnery on the lijiang river,i have been do that,i just finish my trip at yangshuo.verry good,and i booking this tour from self appointed travel service at yangshuo,the service is very good, you could contact with them ,their e-mail:weili2576@21cn.com.

actually u don't need a tour, i biked and on the way back i made a sign with my hand to some small boats and they put our bikes on the boat and took us back to Yangshuo
such a nice scenery

I also heartily endorse starting at Xing Ping. You can even go down river there and then catch a pre-arranged ride back to Yangshuo. The views downriver from Yangshuo are more stupendous, in my opinion.
