Birmingham and Coventry are both in the West Midlands, and so are covered by the same cheap local transport system. The cheapest way (but not the quickest) way of getting between the two cities is by bus. As a rough estimate it takes about 30 minutes to get from the center of Birmingham to the center of Coventry. I can't remember the prices as I've not taken one for many years, but the absolute most you will pay should be 1.10 pounds each direction. If you are going to be doing the trip regularly there are week-tickets that can save you a lot of money, for example the Adult Regional Off Peak Travelcard covers you for a week of off-peak (9:30am - 3:30pm and from 6:00pm onwards) travel all over the West Midlands region for only 6.30 pounds.

Trains are a lot quicker, and station to station it takes about 10 minutes, but you pay for it.
