I always camp at www.camping-muenstertal.de
It's about 20miles south of Friebourg, you can get the train from outside the campsite.Take a look at my German and Staufen pages.

I stay with friends but Munstertal is indeed a nice valley. In my Staufen page I recommend a lovely countryside restaurant and hotel where I've dined. If my memory serves me right, they also have a pool. It is in the hills above Munstertal.

Otherwise, Freiburg itself is worth a visit (as is probably Baden-Baden, I haven't been there yet). From Freiburg, you should head up the Schauinsland mountain for views across to France and even to the Swiss Alps in good weather (see my Black Forest page).

You could also visit some vineyards in the Rhine plain below the mountains.

DJH/HI youth hostels
http://www.jugendherberge.de/international/html/index.jsp

independent hostels
http://www.hostel-list.de/hostellist.htm

At DJH hostels you'll mostly get a 4-bed family room.

Burg Wildenstein (above the Upper Danube Valley between Sigmaringen and Donaueschingen)

One of the few never destroyed castles. Impressive and very scenic location.

Interesting is als a visit in the Hohenzollern castle in Sigmaringen.

Black Forest Tourism

It depends what you're interested in
- hiking/nature(lot's of opportunities)
Famous is the Wutachschlucht
http://www.urlaub-im-schwarzwald.uehlingen-birkendorf.de/english/wandern.html
http://www.wutachschlucht.de/wutachschlucht.html
But this is no easy or short hike. Nice is the Wanderbus (~ hiking bus) which connects the two (onliest) exit points in the valley, Wutachmühle and Schattenmühle that you can get back to your car.
- museum railway
The Wutachtalbahn is one of the nicest museum railways in Germany.
http://www.sauschwaenzlebahn.de/ceasy/modules/cms/index.html?cPageId=5
http://www.wutachtalbahn.de
25 km tracks for a distance of 9,6 km.
- buildings
The biggest dome on a church in Europe is St. Peters in Rome, the 2nd biggest St. Pauls in London - the 3rd biggest is St. Blasien in a village with the same name (the village developed around the monastry.
http://www.sankt-blasien.de
Famous organ (better than the ones in the two big sisters)
http://www.sankt-blasien.de/kultur/domkonzert.htm
- museums
The Black Forest Open Air Museum Vogtsbauernhof:
http://www.vogtsbauernhof.org/
And a nice contrast the Vitra Design Museum in Weil am Rhein
http://www.design-museum.de
- nice towns
e.g. Gengenbach
http://www.badenpage.de/gengenbach/

The B 500 (aka Schwarzwaldhochstrasse (Black Forest High Road)) is a scenic north-south route through the Black Forest.

And here a list with some recommendations for pensions, farm stays (~ B&B)
