| Capri | Capri in August Posted: Thu June 16, 2005 02:01 AM UTC
My husband and I are going to Capri in the beginning of August. We both have been there before, but it's been awhile. We have 11 days to use up, only nine
if we include flying time. We would like to spend half of our time in Capri, and the other half somewhere else. Any suggestions? We have to fly in and out of the same airport due to us using travelmiles. I have been to Rome, but my husband has not. Could do that and then go down to Capri. Or, we would really like to go to Prague. Does anybody know if flights go from Prague to Naples? How about Sicily? I'm just throwing things out there. Bottom line, we really want Capri and one other great spot. Have to fly in and out of the same airport from the States, just need to find are own transportation within Europe. Thanks, Cris P.S. Any great hotels or B & B's in Capri that you would suggest? |

there are so many places you could go, but I would strongly suggest not trying to get back to a major airport on the morning of your departure from Capri or the Amalfi peninsula. It is a long trip in the early early AM and you probably have a change in NYC to deal with also. Perhaps make Capri first and Rome or another major city second. From Rome, Capri is two trains and then a hydrofoil or ferry.

you could stay in Naples, too, or fly to Sicily. Naples is a beautiful city.. really, it has a bad reputation abroad but it's so nice.. i guess the bad reputation comes from very very back in the past when poor immigrants went abroad and brought their sometimes uneducated behaviours.. BUT seriously Naples has crime problems like any major city in Europe, nothing more.. and it's full of history...
otherwise you could fly to Sicily. You could visit Agrigento, Taormina and other sites.. you can fly out of rome to Sicily with jetwind: http://w1.volawindjet.it/rotte.php ciaoooo

I have done a trip similar to the one you are suggesting. We flew into Rome, took the train to Naples, took the hydrofoil to Capri and stayed for 2 days, took the hydrofoil to Sorrento/Positano. We stayed in the Amafi coast for 4 days including taking a trip to Ravello and Pompeii. We took a car back to the train station in Naples and took the train back to Rome where we stayed for a few more days. Definate musts are staying in Capri overnight- the place is magical with all the day trippers gone. Also, seeing Ravello. Next time I want to stay in Ravello. We stayed in the B&B Brunello in Capri and at the Eden Roc in Positano. We liked Positano better than Sorrento as it was more resort like and we could easily get to the other small towns of Amalfi and Praino.

Hi-
I have stayed at Punta Tragara hotel in Capri and the Quisisana Hotel also. Both are excellent. The views and the scenic location at the Punta Tragara can't be matched. It is about a ten minute walk from the Piazza and the walk is beautiful. The service is excellent there also. Ask for a room with a terrace and a sea view. The Quisisana Hotel is located in the center of town. The service is also excellent and the pool area is very nice. The rooms are quaint also. Another hotel that is beautiful is called Villa Brunella. I went there for dinner often. Villa Brunella is near the Punta Tragara hotel and has beautiful views also. Enjoy your trip to Capri! I wish I were going again this summer!
