hi everybody

I was thinking about doing a 2day stop-over in qatar and need some advise:

1. cheap hotels in qatat? as i am a student traveler i dont want to spend more than 40USD for a night. are there hotels at this range around (or even cheaper) or not?

2. are the beaches in qatar also so well made than the ones in dubai?

3. is there sth to do but shopping in qatar?

1) Yes, there are cheap hotels, but I wouldn't recommend them.

2) The beaches at the big hotels are fine.

3) You can always walk around and check out people and places. No charge. :-)

P.S. Two-day stopover? Now you know the drawbacks of cheap tix.

mate, i just got back from a 3 day visit to Qatar. believe me, it's no where close to as brutal as many people here have made it out to be.
there are plenty of cheap hotels around Asmakh street. They aren't very flashy but they're better than the YMCA in many countries! but i doubt you'd get anything decent for that low a budget.
I stayed at the Qatar Palace hotel. it was during the G77 Conference and every hotel was full, so they probably overcharged me anyways. still, get into a taxi and let them take u around.
But whatever you do, do not go to the Muntaza plaza or apartments. a few of my friends ended up staying there and had cockroaches running around the rooms and beds!

go to the sofitel hotel bar on the 12th floor and enjoy a beer and the view!
