| Distrito de Leiria | Nazare or anywhere? Posted: Mon June 13, 2005 05:22 PM UTC
I was going to have Nazare as my base for visiting Obidos, Alcobaca and the rest of the region, to enjoy both the Atlantic and the monuments. However, I cannot find any nice accommodation there (yes, I read the Nazare accommodation question on the forum, but I’m looking for something with more of an ambience) .
Can anybody suggest either a different starting point in the region (preferably a nice seaside village) or accommodation in Nazare? I’m going to be using public transportation, so I’m looking for a place with train/bus access. Thanks for all your tips! |

You could choose Leiria as a base to visit Batalha and Alcobaca. Leiria is not on the sea, but it is a nice town.
Obidos should not be far from Leiria too. I also suggest a short stay in Tomar.

If you're looking for a nice seaside place, Nazaré isn't the right choice. It's an ugly village with nothing to see. It was quite nice until the 80's.
Try Caldas da Rainha (not seaside but quite close) or Peniche.

There are Hotels in Nazaré, not sure if you are looking for a regular Hotel.
I know there is a very good place outside Nazaré something like rural house, but they don't have public tranportation from there, it is near the A8 exit.

Actually I was looking for something more with a "climate" like an old manor house/monastery turned into a hotel/hostel (I visited one near Florence - by far the most wornderful place I've ever been to).
The above being by ideal scenario, I would be almost equally happy to stay in a hotel - would you be able to suggest one? The ones I can find on the internet usually do not have any pictures of in and exterior. Korn

you are right the hotels don't have the pictures and i only know the D.Fuas in front of beach.
If you want to take a look on great places to stay see: http://www.pousadasofportugal.com/portugal.html you'll find near with transportation in Batalha and in Obidos both far from sea.
