| Haugesund | many minutes and less ideas. Posted: Mon June 13, 2005 03:14 PM UTC
Hi All
We are flying into Haugesund in late August for 2 nights and are interested in seeing Glaciers, pulpit or Preekstoel and Kayaking. We are really keen on spending a day up a fjord kayaking but cant seem to find anyone hiring kayaks out. We are not particularly fussed if we don't stay in Haugesund so if you can suggest a good campsite or B&B that is central to our interests that would be great. Local area maps anyting would be good. Take care of yourselves and thanks for your responses in advance. MGJ |

Bømlo island is probably the best place for sea kayaking in the area you mention. Check the web sites given by others here if there is kayak rental... otherwise, kayak clubs in Stavanger and Bergen may be able to help you out. If nothing of this works, check the web for "Vetlekroken". If you are not able to go there, at least thay may be able to advice where the nearest rental to Haugesund is. My feeling is that you will be running out of breath trying to do all this in two nights/three days. Chances is that with the copious amounts of rain in this part of Norway, the kayaking may be the highest risk of being a down experience given the limited window of opportunity to choose a suitable day.
Happy trip! Olav

If you plan on going to Preiksestolen, there's several camping sites in Jørpeland, which would be the nearest village. Lysefjorden by kayak would probably work, as well...
